I thought this was pretty boring but I was wrong. I stayed glued to the tv when it was showing. I thought it was a movie about a woman being abused but half of the movie was about her trying to escape and run from her abusive husband.
The lawyer was right. She had 2 chances to report to police but her abusive husband was friends with police! What could she do to protect their daughter and herself?
When she started to train to fight back, I cheered.
Sometimes her cute-in-old daughter says the darnest thing. :D
Like when JLO told her daughter, "You can't call me Slim anymore, ok?"
Her daughter shrugged, "I never called you Slim."
"I know.. but when people ask... I'm not Slim."
Her daughter was like, whatever. "I don't think you're slim anyway."
Haha. A few light hearted moments in this thriller.
On a deeper level, any movie with abuse - I watch. It's just not fair to be abused - verbally, physically, emotionally, etc.
A lot of people in the protection industry also have to depend on criminals for funds in election, etc. Like Sandra's big boss who prefers to save his own big ass than finding the right murderer.
I think it would make a good book. Or is it from a book?
There's not many people speaking in the movie. It's more of a documentary, a tribute to Spain's (dead?) musicians. No translation whatsoever! No brief description of the songs/compositions is about. The cinematography is good, if you are in an exam for filming. Mirrors and backgrounds make the stage and dances interesting. Lots of toned dancers. No idea who they are.. read they are quite famous in Spain and dancing.
Even old (and big) grandmothers can dance.
I tried to sleep in the cinema but couldn't.
I wanted to catch Blood Diamond and Babel but missed Babel's screening time.
Then I thought that I am still looking for job, I shouldn't waste money on a movie but it was Valentine's Day yesterday! I should love myself and treat myself. I feel good, I would definately get a great job! :D
But I went to the bookshop to read and then felt tired, just wanted to sit and not think. So I went back to the cinema and queued up again to buy ticket. :)
Feeling hungry and nausea, I ate 1901 New York Chicken after requesting for reheat. The staff was so nice and obliging, smiling all the time. :D
When I reached the cinema room, it was just starting! I thought I would be early but apparently I didn't notice the time flying while buying the hotdog and then at washroom.
I'm not a fan of Leonardo after Titanic. I thought it was overblown by the blarring soundtrack, side effects and nudity. Sure, it was tragic. I prefer him in What's Eating Gilbert Grape. He also reminds me of my friend's boyfriend - boyish looks, more to female lips and small eyes. But his acting here is good.
The movie is full of violence and hatred, trickery and deception. Each use another to get something or someone, except the innocent and sometimes funny Solo(mon). "I- I'm the - cameraman." :) Djimon Hounsou is excellent here.
Why do Africans hurt themselves? Why are there war and rebels?
1 of the quote was "I'm not the devil. Don't call me the devil just because I live in hell."
Are the violent and uncontrolled people caused by the environment - of other people abusing the weaker people, poverty, lack of education?
Don't they have the choice - at least, don't the adults have a choice? Why stay in home country when there's not enough protection and opportunities to grow? Why leave when it's your own country - you belong there and the country belongs to you?
How hard is breaking the chain of violence?

Compared to Death Note: The Last Name (Death Note 2), the 1st one was short because this Last Name was more than 2hrs!
It felt longer to me. I was squirming in my seat because I had to tahan my nature call. Just before I went into the cinema, I already had been to the washroom but once the movie started - after watching countless of beer ads and uninteresting movie previews of 300, Ghost Rider, Rocky Balboa, etc.. I had the urge to release water. Ah, shit!
The Last Name has more twists than the 1st one. I was mostly zoned out. Didn't even think how or why, I could barely read the translated words on screen and look at the characters at the same time!
SPOILERS!
Misa Misa is cute but so blindly in love. Light is really a cold, bastard devil.
Why didn't L put his name in the fake book?
Sigh. The Last Name is also darker, more depressing - so many innocent people die. Shinigamis are funny. The mask too.
Now, excuse me - I'm going to find out the ending in the anime - it's different from the movie.

Ha? Rem is a female in the anime! Did I misinterpret his, I mean, her manly voice (over) in the movie or Rem's character underwent sex operation?
Is there going to be another movie about the other characters?
A spin-off film, featuring L as the main character,[9] is currently in production to be released in Japan in 2007.[10]. The sequel is set in the United States.
Yeay!

Unlike Sinking of Japan, this doesn't have totally out of place musical score. Thank God.
No cheesy love scenes too. The tender scenes are enough. Like the fighting scenes too. But those tribes live in such colours only? Of course, the winter doesn't help.
Ghost is certainly 1 smart guy. Wished he had more hard muscles..
Just now, X-Men was shown again on tv and I realised I had missed some scenes when I 1st watched it on tv!
I still think X-Men 2 is the best.. I wished X-Men 3 were longer. Wolverine is sooo adorable.
